The Secret... of the secret

So, for those of you who have not yet seen or read the book 'The Secret', well that is your major goal at this step in my opinion. Its not so much that this movie/documentry will heal your soul or provide life changing solutions on its own, rather it provides the key, the first step if you will in shinning the light up the right path, rather then so plentiful 'wrong' or less then successful paths.

There was one, rather two key things that stuck with me after watching 'The Secret' for about the 30th time. And that was;

1) you need to keep trying regardless how long it takes, to many people quit just as they are getting started.

2) if you want to be successful, you need to act successful.

What this ment for me was simple. Well, not so simple at first, it took me about 30 times of watching 'The Secret' and the 'The Secret' alone before it dawned on me. If you were to decide you wanted to buy a car, and lets say its your very first car, the one that a pimple faced inexperienced teenageer buys. Unless someone helped you buy that first car, what did the majority of us do? We did a little research (maybe), we put some money together and bought pretty much the first shiny car in our price range that suited our "needs". Since that car, what have you learned about buying cars? You learn to research better, to buy what you actually need, get registration checks, maybe get a mechanic to look at it and pherhaps many other things.

My point is rather simple. It took watching 'The Secret' 30 odd times before I figured it out, that the movie alone was not going to do it, and really, why should it? Why would watching a single movie once in your life have an ever lasting effect on your life? Do you think David Beckham never trains, he just goes out and plays, do you think Ronnie Coleman after he won his first contest never trained again? Of course they keep training, they train harder and smarter. They look for better more efficient ways of succeding and being the BEST in their chosen fields.

So whats your chosen field? It may be a sport, an occupation or a skill. For me its was/is financial freedom. And then it dawned on me. To know how to be financially free, I would have to study about it. Learn about money, how it works, its dynamics, what its value is, how to use it and how to respect it.

Ah Myspace

So, with all the adword and adsense, it makes sense that if done the right way you could actually pay your adword budget with earnings from the adsense profit margin. Now we enter into online internet marketing. A concept I am still learning about, a topic that I think that is ever growing. And lucky for us, Google has again jumped on board, or rather is letting us jump on board by providing a tool called Google Analytics. I personal have yet to use this tool. So if any one has advice, comments or information, please feel free to comment on this blog about it.

Until you get your adwords campaign going there is a "free" form of marketing called 'viral' marketing. Now I know it sounds bad, but it is a term given to word-of-mouth marketing. Social or network marketing. How, who, why, where and when? Well, Myspace and Facebook are a good example of this and more recently Twitter.

These are all examples of social networking hubs. Places where people can share information about each other, pictures, employment and education, email and chat, plus all the plentiful and useless applications and games, mobster this, your pornstar name that. The point is, these are great free places to network your brand, ie, your self for free. Obviously, as your enterprise grows and so does your desire for greater income, you will need to employ advertising either on your own or with a professional company or pherhaps a combination of the two.

Just as a reminder, in terms of Google Adsense, for me personally, I could not get adsense to work on Myspace. It was at this point in time I refocused my efforts on a different form of passive income, as I have a full time well paying job, I was in search of a low effort passive income. All the time being realistic that the level of this income would be proportional to my amount of effort. Initially, Google adsense on its own seemed like a possible solution. But without much internet experience, nil webmaster skills, and no website of my own, it kinda fell into a heap - initially.

Passive Income

Now, I learnt alot about Google Adsense the hard way. I stumbled on to a guy named Joel Comm. I have never met Joel or had studied what he has to say and what he offers. But in essence, passive income from Google Adsense seems viable - if you are getting the traffic through your site. Now I have read that some people are earning +$250K a year USD from Adsense. Make from this what you will.

I thought to my self, well I need a web page to get some Google Adsense going to start earning myself some passive income, easy. Right? Well, unless you already have a web page, you need to get on, or atleast get online, a blog, a forum or something similar. Then you need to apply for Google Adsense, then you need to apply it to your site/page. Here lyes within my first lesson.

I caught Joel on one of his videos saying that some people have made a decent profit from Myspace and Facebook. Now although this may be true and possible, with my low level of computer knowledge and webmaster skills left me a little bit limited in "simply" applying the HTML Google Adsense code to one of these sites. I personaly have not tried applying it to Facebook, I have however tried to apply it to Myspace. There maybe a way to do it. But I can tell you that I failed. Myspace kept deleting the code. Looking on the Google Adsense blog I have read that both Facebook and Myspace block these codes, basically for use by them selves or other private adds, and really, why not, it makes sense.

So after falling a bit flat footted by not having a site to place Adsense on I made this blog, as you will notice that Google has placed adds on this page. Now as a bit of a disclaimer for those of you who do not already know, it is an offence under the Google Adsense terms and conditions to encourgae people to click on adds placed on your website/page. Thus, as I write about Google Adsense I stress I am writing for information purposes about my experiences and I do NOT encourage you to click on any adds that may appear with this blog.

Google

A little over 18 months ago my mother sent me a copy of a DVD entitled "The Secret". Now for those of you who read my last blog, I will not go back into a story that I have already told. But for those of you who have not heard of "The Secret" I suggest you either read my previous blog or Google it.

Have you ever Google'd your self, something close to you or someone you know? Now I cant speak for every one but a large number of insignificant people I know can be found on Google, if it is used right. Now, of course there is a cavet on this. For a person to be found on Google they either need to be an internet user or interact (atleast) with an entity that uses the internet. This could range from a news paper/reporter or something as simple as an entity that posts on the internet what has recently happened, like the buying and selling of cattle.

Where is this going you may ask. Google is "the" or atleast a major key in my story. I quickly learnt about two terms, Googleadword and GoogleAdsense. Adword in simplicity is the form of paying Google to rank higher in their search return or better know as results. Adsense is the manner for advertising what ever and who ever wants to pay Google to advertise themselves.

In essence, you may pay Google to advertise your company, but Google needs "banners" or "bill boards" on to which to place your add for the general public to see. In walks the website owner. A website owner may apply to Google to display Google adds on their web page at a commission. Thus, you can make money by allowing Google to display other peoples add on your web site, these people are using Adwords.

The amount of money you can earn from Google Adsense is based upon varying factors, the prime factor being traffic, the amount of people you have through your website, and of course depending on the agreement with Google will depend on how you get paid. This can either be, pay per click, or pay per impression. Basically, it means earning a commission either everytime an add is clicked displayed on your web page, or every time that add is simply just displayed on your web page.

Google does all the hard work and determines which adds it will display, in what cycles etc. You dont need to concern your self with this. Why you might ask, seeing as you want people to come to your site and view those adds to earn a passive income. Well the answer is simple. Other people are paying to display these adds, Google is paying you a commission to "host" (provide a place to advertise) these adds. Seeing as you are basically being paid simply for letting Google display adds in your free space means that Google wants to make sure it is getting the most out of you, and hence, they will place the most appropriate adds relevent for your web site.

There are like you would expect, terms and conditions to using Google and its services. From what I understand, they are very strict in how they manage them self and people who promote/display Google as an affiliate. As they are a house hold name you can expect they take them selves seriously and will not tolerate miss use of their brand name and identity.

The Secret

Hi every one, how are you?

Well this blog is my quest, or rather a running open journal on my quest for financial freedom. In this I intend to share my discoveries, how I am going and what techniques I am using on my quest to have financial freedom.

Firstly, my quest began with my mother sending me a copy of the movie "The Secret". If you have not already seen it, I highly recommend that you grab your self a copy and watch it, over and over again.

Basically, "The Secret" outline the power of attraction in the universe. Now for all those who believe that this is all airy fairy type stuff and the only way to make money and a life of success, I challenge you with this. Is success defined by money? If so, how much money would make you happy and would have you considering your self successful?

To put a dollar value on life is impossible. For me atleast this is the case. Do I need my own passanger jet if I want to up and leave and travel the world? For me, no I dont need my own passanger jet, but it would be nice to be able to travel to where I want with in a reasonable time frame.

For me, success is defined by the ability to lead and live I life I choose. To be my own boss, and to live on my own clock. Success is to be able to have the life experiences I have always dreamed of, to spend more time with friends and family, to have the time to learn another language, or a musical intrument, to travel. Basically to do as I please with the reality of administration and logistics.

What does administration and logistics mean. It means taking into account the reality that if I desire to travel that flights take time to purchase and may only depart at certain times, that limited accomodation may be available when I get to this fantasy destination.

At the begining of this entry i asked you a question - what is success. Well, what is it? Is it wealth? For many of us, having a bottomless bag of money would make us happy. Consider this for a moment. A bottomless bag of money... A limitless amount of funds. To the average person they may laugh at this concept and tell you that the only success in life is hard work and bricks and mortar. Im telling you that it is possible, but the concept is one that is often termed residual or passive income. it is the concept of buliding yourself an organisation or empire that continually works its self through various means to continually provide you with an income.

This means at any given time, you may not be worth more than $1 million. However, as you spend and invest, so to does the income work its way into your bank account. This is not a new concept. Some people work hard all their lives and retire on superannuation, or bricks and mortar investments such as housing. Others build small buisness' and work very hard to make them successful. Other build empires and organisations and invest their money into calculated investments. It is these investments that continue to earn money for many years to come.

Think of Bill Gates. Do you think he still works at a PC building software for the latest Microsoft release? Or do you think he runs a buisness? Every organisation requires hard work and dedication to start.

It was this realisation when watching "The Secret" that I decided I needed to take action. And in the information age and the popularity of Google, my search began...
